Best Whitening Soap So Far

With the vast sea of whitening soaps out in the market, the average Filipina can just wreck her brains out from having to choose from these soap brands.  I've swum with most girls to find out which among these whitening soaps will work best for me, and it wasn't easy.

I've even been tempted many times to strike up a conversation with strangers: ladies flashing their gorgeous white skin in front of me, and me dying to know what soap they use.

So I've crossed that out from my list, befriending paper-white-skinned girls in exchange for their beauty secret.  I also grew tired being sold on every whitening soap commercial that's got the fairest endorsers.  It's a convenient thing nowadays to have beauty forums, product review sites and, of course, blogs!

Likas Papaya Soap, 78php @ groceries, selected dep't stores and Mercury drugstore
  • non-drying and gentle on the skin
  • dead skin cells fall off after bathing if you are newly using this
  • no overpowering scent

Pervil Soap, ~100 to 120php @ groceries, dep't stores and and Mercury drugstore

  • a bit expensive but works as nice as Likas Papaya sans the long waiting period
  • has an equally pricey matching moisturizing lotion
  • a bit drying on my skin
  • felt that you had to use the lotion to see its effects

CY Gabriel, not over 30php @ groceries and dep't stores

  • a bit too drying for my liking
  • saw lightening effects in a month's time

Cyleina Black Pearl, ~ 80php @ hortaleza stores and ebay/multiply resellers

  • i don't quite get the hype over this soap
  • it works as well as CY gabriel, in my opinion
  • it's a bit drying on my skin, too

Kojie-San Kojic Soap, ~60php @ groceries, dep't stores and and Mercury drugstore

  • barely saw lightening effects in a month's time
  • a bit drying
  • has a nice orange-y scent

Psalmstre Placenta Whitening Soap w/ Goatsmilk, 80 to 100php @groceries and Watson's

  • the most drying of all lightening soaps I've tried!
  • developed rashes and so I had to give it up
  • one of the best whitening effects I've seen so far

RDL Whitening Papaya Soap, 30 to 40php @groceries, Watson's and Mercury drugstore

  • gradual skin lightening, more gradual than Likas, in my opinion
  • i just felt that Likas did a better job in lightening and moisturizing the skin

All these bars helped in easily scuffing off dead skin cells.

If I were to award the best lightening soap, it would be to Likas Papaya (for the natural kind of lightening effect). Psalmstre had a super white effect on my skin that I really liked, but I just can't bear looking at the rashes... white+non-flawless skin=bummer.

I am currently using Likas Papaya. It was the first whitening soap that ever kissed my skin and I just keep coming back to it!

  1. you know, i have an uncle (yes, uncle!) who is already somewhere at around 60+ but his skin is flawless. It's almost tight & i thought that is undergoing botox treatment just to achieve his flawless complexion. he said that he only use placenta soap!

I can't believe that a man would actually be recommending the use of placenta soap. Im not sure if i would actually try it but then i see the effect it had on him!

anyway, likas papaya i think is the best one so far. no matter how dramatic the increase in the price was, i still think that it's worth your money!

  4. Hay, pareho tayo---I too was so taken with the hype surrounding Cyleina Black Pearl soap. Sadly, it was a huge waste of money (a bought a lot, as in, in embarrassing number of bars). I'm not really after the whitening effect, but more for the even complexion. And again, like you, Likas Papaya ang favorite ko, simply because it's not harsh on the skin, very lightly scented and works best on my skin.

Off-topic. Are you going to UST's 400th anniversary celebration on the 28th? If you are, I hope to meet you, even briefly. You know my email. Let me know.

Is there a particular method you use when washing with this?

Oh my! I have a tinted sunblock (SPF 40) with placenta ive been using for quite sometime now! im not sure if it's an addition to what's making my skin glow these days....

    @Rhain
Hi Rhain! Likas does not have a strong scent at all... you might want to try that out. Dropped by your pretty blog :D

  13. Hi! You may try ByNature Handmade Soap's CITRUS WHITE. It's not that drying. A bar cost around P120. It's 100% organic but you have to purchase it online as they still don't have a physical store. I used this soap when I was pregnant w/ my second child, lightened those unsightly spots on my skin. You know, how pregnancy disrupts the skin's melanin production. Okay, you get the picture. Hahaha!

New follower here. I'm a skincare junkie too! :)

  14. Is Likas only available in the philipenes? I want to have whited, brighter skin for the upcoming summer leg baring seasons.

Anyways great review, new follower here :)

  21. I tried kojie san and psalmstre too. I didn't notice any significant lightening with kojie and I used it for more than a year. With psalmstre, I noticed my skin started peeling with 3 days of once a day usage. I noticed also my skin got lighter within a few weeks time. The drying effect I didn't feel that much because I use lotion. However, I got rashes so I had to stop.

  22. all those soaps did not do their job on me exept cyleina black pearl. the best soap ever is l-gluta, and kojic acid soap from diana stalder and also beauche beauty bars. effects seen in just a week

  23. My Dermatologist is one of the best in the USA, and they told me skin lightening soaps are a waste of money and do nothing. To whiten the skin, you need to apply a melanin inhibitor on the skin and leave it there. The ingredients in whitening soaps are too weak to do anything, and these ingredients are washed off the skin anyway. Any lightening effect you see if from either scrubbing dead cells off your skin (which is accomplished with any soap) or the temporary plumping of the skin due to water.

Do not waste your money with skin lightening soaps, they do NOTHING.

  24. Hi there! I haven't tried any of those whitening soaps since I'm afraid that they may harm my skin. I think I will give it a try this time. Thanks for the tips. Looking forward for other skin care tips. Btw, I would also like to know which whitening lotion works best? Thanks Much!!! :)

  37. Hi just want to share this with you guys: I'm using Meztisa whitening soap and it is really effective. I used it mostly on my face and it really whitens plus it can make disappear your large pimples and prevents from coming back. Please try it only cost around 60 pesos.

I'm a Filipina but I have whiter skin and Meztisa enhances it and also I'm pimple free.

Cons: it can dry your skin (only because it dries out your pimples). It can leave redness and mild stinging (because its the effect of special mixture that flushes out all skin impurities to bring brighter looking skin).

Cons: it can make your skin dry (because it dries your pimples). it can be stingy and leave red patches on face (

  44. wow, so you already tried all those soaps. I tried Likas before pero wala ako makitang effect kahit one month na ko gumagamit. Sa kojie san naman, naglighten din skin yun nga lang medyo mahapdi saka nakakadry.

what about the Mestiza soap, sino nakatry na? sabi okay din yun since herbal soap. saka yung Glupa?

  45. Kung pagiging adik lang sa whitening soap ako din yun.. Lahat na na try ko pero sa lahat ng na try ko ang pinaka the best for me is TOP GEL Papaya Soap..

  46. I used to use kojic soap and it is good...but that was until my aunt introduced me to a new and better soap along with a whitening cream that works flawlessly together. The soap is called Top One original papaya whitening soap (way much better than Lika's) and I use it together with a day and night cream by Jiaoli. It's a bit pricey but very well worth every penny! And mind you all I'm a male (drag queen) using this product and it's the best by so far. Anyone wants to know where to buy it just leave a comment and I'll point you in the right direction! :)

  47. I have also tried a lot of whitening soaps: CY, Psalmtree, Godiva, etc... before, maganda effect ng cy sa akin esp the original. I dont know but maybe as I aged, mahirap na matanggal ang mga scars. :) Godiva is also good but, over a year ago I came across a page in fb who sells skin products and I kind of like their producta not only the soaps but halos lahat ng products nila. As to whitening, hindi instant ang effect sa akin but I noticed lang nag.even ang skin tone ko. I also like their lotion. You can check it on fb or instagram : BN WHITENING SHOPPE. Main branch is in davao.

At the moment though, I am using tokyo love soap premium.it is pricey talaga as prices ranges from 1000 to 1200. But i like the effect. Noticed ko ang effect on my first use.tokyo love soaps has lots of variant, cheapest is the original.

  69. I tried Kojic Soap at CY Gabriel, sadly hindi ako pumuti. Medyo OK sakin ang CY Gabriel kesa Kojic, at way cheaper pa ang CY. After 2 weeks, may nakita na akong Micro-peeling. Nag Likas Papaya din ako last year, gulat nga ako sa presyo, mahal pala un! Pero hindi din ako pumuti. Likewise, my sister's skin got whiter using Likas. So maybe, mukhang balat carabao ako kaya hindi epektib sa akin! Hahaha
