Do Mongrels Bug You, Too?

Last night was just frustrating. I had to delay a beauty post today to make way for a statement:

"Mongrels (those dogs that aren't purebred) are beautiful, too!"

Chatted with an old pig last night who coolly professed to wanting all mongrels dead (by running over them) because of how ugly they looked and how they trashed the streets with their emaciated looks. He babbled about how much he knew about various dog breeds and how expensive his purebreds were. Gaaaah!

By the time he got so full of himself, to which I silently gave disapproving nods to, I threw him a picture I got from my wallet as I took off. I gave that arrogant pig a photo of my decade-old mongrel, Boggart:

This is my Boggart, my mongrel, and I love him so much.

"Mongrels are beautiful, too!" I shouted back at him as tears welled from my eyes. I was totally pissed but congratulated myself for not punching his face (yes, I can be very violent) while he glorified himself in that 10-minute chat we had.

For those who have been reading my blog, you know how much I love animals. While there are those that scare me or do not tickle my fancy, I never resented their existence. I know that there is beauty to every living thing and the weird- or freaky-looking ones just need more time to be appreciated.

I am just in pure shock (and in tears) thinking about how many other condescending people hate mongrels to the point of wishing them ill (or wanting to run over them!). And to all those poor mutts who've been a little less lucky for being a mixed breed, you are all beautiful to me.

  1. Honey, I'm an animal lover, too. Purebreds, mongrels or native AsPinoy, they are all beautiful to me. I can punch that sick guy for you! Just let me know. =)

  2. I love them too! I had a mongrel for 10 years and she just died a month ago. She was the sweetest dog that I ever had. Also with cats, I prefer adopting strays than purebreds. Strays are more in need of a home. That guy's a hypocrite. If he likes dogs,he shouldn't base it on breeds. Just don't mind him.

    Your dog's adorable too.=)

  3. Aww Argie, I'm mighty proud of you for not punching him in the face because I would've given him an upper cut if I were in your shoes. Just reading this made me mad at whoever he is. :(

  4. Hi Dang!
yeah, sigh, i was teary-eyed because i wanted to make a point to him through my fist. i am very very very emotional when it comes to animals.

and thanks for letting me know you love dogs too without having to look at their breed.

  5. Camille,
Boggart barked back and says you look cute!

And about your dog, I'm sorry he had to go. Boggart's over 10 human years now and gradually losing his lower set of teeth. We're prepping ourselves for what may come, it's tough, but we know our loyal mutt's nearing the end of a great journey.

we're also a home for stray cats! gosh, one time we had 13 stray cats we tended to. it would've been nice to have kept them all, but some just comes and go and we were all happy that we were able to cater to them :D

  6. Pammy,
Sis, I'm pretty strong and if that punch did happen, it's gonna be a riot I tell you (I don't hit like a girl). Haha, that's why I urged myself to be extra-super-dooper-megalo-over patient!

    Every Dog is Beautiful
and that guy was an a-hole...

my first dogs were both mongrels...they were still dogs no matter what breed they were...loving and caring...

and the reason why so many dogs are on the streets because stupid people like *that* guy dont take a chance on mongrels...grrrhh

sorry your post made me emotional :P

  9. It is such a shame to know how some people can be sooooooooooo heartless. Even more dismaying is the thought that those kind of people even speak their evil thoughts out loud. Tsk!!!

I agree with Pammy, you deserve a pat on the back for not getting into an argument with someone who doesn't make sense.

Those kind of people deserve to be knocked off in order to come to their senses. :/

*shaking angry fist at old pig man

  10. You SHOULD have punched him. On the nuts! I don't understand why mongrels are discriminated on when they are in fact the ones with the best genes---unlike purebreds, whose gene pool aren't diluted and in whom genetic diseases surface more often.

Your Boggart is so adorable!!! He shares the name of one of my favorite dogs (who by the way had 8 pups in one pregnancy and was able to sustain them all till they were ready to be given away)

thanks for thinking of it that way. :)

    @Louise
thanks! Boggart barked back too to thank you for the kind words.

and im as emotional as you are when it comes to dogs (well, animals in general), so it's okay ;)

ooohhh... feisty! thank you for tolerating my violent self :D haha.

i feel like he's having second thoughts bout what he said coz he texted me and apologized. that should jumpstart a better outlook on pets for him.

    @Ellen
8 pups! Aaaa, enge! haha. Ang dami... she's a strong mutt to have gone through that!

Re: gene pool and stuff. oh yeah? i didn't know that. i currenlty have a pitbull (well, the BF says pits are mongrels too since they're mixed breeds) and Boggart, so i pretty much have mongrels around me.

  13. It really saddens me to see the extent to which some people hate mixed breeds. My dog is not one but when the hubs and I were looking for a pet, we looked at ALL kinds. I believe that unless a person is in the business of showing dogs, having a mutt should not be an issue. As you said, they are all beautiful.

    Boggart is beyond precious. <3

  14. You had 13 cats?! Wow!! Hahaha!! I bet they were really loud when they're about to eat! We have 4 visitor cats right now. I'm a bit annoyed because they taunt my outdoor cat(outdoor cause he prefers to play outside rather than stay at home unlike my scaredy indoor cat who never wants to go outside nor get out of my room) And my outdoor cat doesn't fight back coz he's a bit old. So a lot of times, I don't give food to those visitors which is ok since they go house to house and everybody feeds them so they are really big and fat!

  15. I'm very sory you cam across such person :S
I mean - to run over dogs on purpose? What kind of an asshole does that to animals?

I'd love to hear what you think!
